GEL Geophysics – Field Technician II

Durham, NC

 

GEL Geophysics, LLC has a position for a Field Technician II in our Durham, NC office.   This job is an entry to mid -level position responsible for assisting with a variety of operational tasks and has high professional growth potential.  The primary responsibilities include underground utility data collection in the field using geophysical equipment, documentation of field activities, and assisting with project reports and other deliverables under the supervision of a project manager. Some travel is required.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Base Requirements:

     Perform and document field work for utility locating (Subsurface Utility Engineering) and geophysics projects

     Calibrate and maintain equipment and supplies as required

     Prepare results of field work in written and/or electronic format for review by senior staff

     Assist with tasks of various scope with supervision from Field Team Leader, Project Manager or Supervisor; tasks include creating tables, gathering and summarizing data and other information, conducting editorial review of reports, performing basic QA/QC tasks, and assisting in report/map production

     Conduct basic calculations

    

Education Required:

     High School Degree with focus on technical or science fields, minimum

     Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Science or related fields, preferred

 

Experience/Skills Required:

     Computer skills (including word processing)

     Capability to learn complex/computerized field equipment

     Good interpersonal and communication skills

     Physical strength and endurance to perform field work

     Knowledge of Geophysics Equipment and/or Electromagnetic Equipment (examples, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Metro Tech or Radio Detection pipe and cable locators) a plus

     Knowledge of AutoCAD or MicroStation a plus
